About Turtle Plushies
Both land- and sea turtles and tortoises are incredibly popular as stuffed animals. The turtles and tortoises display both the strength and endurance of the animals in our world, but also display how fragile nature can be, and how important it is for us to protect them. Give these soft-shelled creatures a good cuddle every once in a while! Buying a stuffed animal turtle through our site will help support the world’s wildlife conservation efforts.
Turtle plushie characteristics
Turtle and tortoise plushies both feature rounded and domed shells on their back. They usually have round heads with beady eyes and no other distinctive facial features such as a nose or a snout. If the plushie is modeled after a tortoise, it usually has four short, thick, ‘elephantine’ legs. Turtle plushies modeled after turtles feature either webbed feet or flippers, since they can be aquatic, semi-aquatic, or mostly terrestrial.
Famous Turtles and Tortoises (available as stuffed animals)
Turtles, like wolves, have mostly played supporting roles in literature and film. The most famous turtles that did have starring roles were Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael, in the comic book series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1984-2014) and all subsequent spin-offs and adaptations, such as Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation (1997), which first featured the fifth Turtle, Venus de Milo. The series stars anthropomorphic turtles – though arguments could be made that they are actually tortoises – who fight crime and eat pizza. Their immense popularity led to many toys being modeled after them, including, of course, stuffed animal ninja turtles.
Other turtles and tortoises who remain famous to this day mostly had supporting roles in animated films. Examples are Crush, a 150-year-old sea turtle, and his son Squirt from Finding Nemo (2003), Grand Master Oogway, the wise kung fu master from Kung Fu Panda (2008), Cecil Turtle, one of the only characters to ever outsmart Bugs Bunny (twice!) in Looney Tunes (1930-1969), and Speed, the talented swimmer from The Swan Princess (1994). Though each of these turtles and tortoises were only minor characters, plushies were modeled after them.
