About Llama Plushies
Around 2017, the llama was introduced as “the new unicorn”. The world was flooded with llama merchandise, the cute ‘Llama With No Drama’ became a hit on Instagram, and couples even rented ‘therapy llamas’ to spice up their wedding day. Ever since the llama moved into the spotlight, toy shops have been selling llama plushies.
Llama plushie characteristics
Llama plushies have long necks, long limbs, and rounded muzzles. They’re often not only modeled after llama’s; they are often made with real llama (or alpaca) fur as well. Their wooly fur is often thick and bushy, which makes the plushies extra good for cuddling. Common colors for llama plushies are white and light brown, though occasionally you’ll find darker shaded varieties – or even extremely colorful fantasy llamas. Llama plushies slightly resemble giraffe plushies, as they both have relatively long necks.
Due to its status as “the new unicorn”, the late 2010s gave rise to a whole new breed of llama plushies: the llamacorn plushie! The llamacorn is a crossbreed between a unicorn and a llama, sporting many colors and a long horn. Some variations of the llamacorn are actually a crossbreed between an alicorn and a llama, since they feature both a horn and wings.

Despite the llama’s newfound popularity, few big franchises have actually used the South American animal to model new characters after. The most famous (animated) llama remains Kuzco, the selfish and egotistical Incan emperor from the Walt Disney feature The Emperor’s New Groove (2000). In the film, the emperor is turned into a llama after drinking a magic potion. The film was a moderate success, and nowadays Kuzco-plushies are relatively hard to find. Still, due to the fluffy mammal’s newfound popularity, there are plenty of original llama plushies out there to please everyone!
