About Frog Plushies

Frog plushies turn the famous amphibians into soft, cuddly critters. Like owls, frogs have relatively large eyes, which makes them very suitable subjects to base stuffed animal designs on. There are even some adorable tadpole plushies available, which take the frog plushies to the next level. Frogs come in all shapes and sizes, and so do the stuffed animal frogs based on them.

Frog plushie characteristics

Frog plushies have big, protruding eyes, a wide mouth, and webbed feet. While real frogs have a moist and permeable skin, the plushies modeled after them have a soft layer of hair. Their fur is most often a shade of green, ranging in darkness. Though in nature, there are frogs in many colors, the same diversity can’t be found in the world of plushies: stuffed animal designers tend to stick to the same color palette when it comes down to frog plushies. The frog plushie has several much bigger family members, such as the dragon plushie and the dinosaur plushie.

Famous Frogs (available as stuffed animals)

The world’s most famous frog is Kermit the Frog, the star and host of The Muppet Show (1976-1981). Created by master puppeteer Jim Henson, Kermit also played an important role on Sesame Street (1969-), and starred in all of The Muppets’ films. The celebrity frog has lizard-like eyes, long, thin limbs and a triangular-pointed collar, which together make him instantly recognizable. Kermit plushies are widely available and remain popular to this day.

Much like how Kermit the Frog served as the logo for The Jim Henson Company, dancing frog Michigan J. Frog was granted the same honor at The WB Television Network from 1995 to 2005. Michigan J. Frog was the star of the animated Merrie Melodies’ short One Froggy Evening (1955). He’s a male frog who wears a top hat, carries a cane, and loves to sing and dance – at least, when it suits him. Every Michigan J. Frog plushie features a top hat, and most capture him as the singing star he is.

Other famous animated frogs who’ve had plushies modeled after them are Tiana and Prince Naveen, the main characters of Walt Disney’s The Princess and the Frog (2009). Most other stuffed animal frogs are original designs.
