Stuffed Animal Koalas

During our travels in Australia we often encountered koalas. As stuffed animals, koalas are almost indistinguishable from the real thing: both in real life and in stuffed animal form, the marsupials are incredibly cute. During the day, the stuffed animal koala may want to take several naps, as they are more active at night. Still, you don’t have to worry about them running away in the dark, as they prefer to stay near their friends.

Koala plushie characteristics

Koalas, like kangaroos and platypuses, are native to Australia. Although we often talk about the “koala bear,” they are not related to bears such as polar bears and pandas. They are marsupials, which live mainly in the eastern part of Australia in forests and along the coast. You can easily spot them along the Great Ocean Road. Koala’s can be recognized by their woolly ears and cute little snout. Since their fur is so woolly and thick, they easily translate into equally soft stuffed animals. The color of koalas ranges from silver-gray to brown. They often have a dark stripe along their back.

Unfortunately, koalas are among the most endangered species in the world, just like tigers, leopards and whales. Koalas are an endangered species because their habitat is under pressure from the expansion of agriculture and the development of urban areas. They are also plagued by diseases, which significantly reduce their population, and forest fires regularly ravage their environments.

Famous Koalas (available as stuffed animals)

There are quite a few koalas that appear in movies and television. A well-known koala duo immortalized as stuffed animals consists of Frank and Buster, the two flying brothers from the animated series The Koala Brothers (2003).

Another popular koala character comes from the animated film The Wild (2006), in which koala Nigel plays a leading role. Nigel is a feisty and petulant koala who has been immortalized as a plush koala for the New York Zoo, where he lives. The koala intensely dislikes the toy and is tired of being called “cute and cuddly” by his fans. Nigel is the only one of his kind in the zoo and he tends to get bored. He dreams of finding out more about what happens outside the animal park. When he gets the chance to escape, he grabs the opportunity with both hands.

A less intense koala is the optimistic Buster Moon, the owner of the theater from Sing (2016). In addition, Walt Disney Animation Studios also came up with a koala: in The Rescuers Down Under (1990) we meet Krebbs, a koala who was captured by Percival C. McLeach. Krebbs is an old and rather pessimistic koala.
