About Bunny Plushies

With their long droopy ears, fluffy tails, and wiggling noses, it’s no surprise bunnies made it to the top 5 of most popular stuffed animals along with other stuffed animals modeled after pets, such as dog plushies and cat plushies. Plushie bunnies are equally soft – if not softer – than their real-life counterparts. One of the most famous bunnies in the world lives in Utrecht, the Netherlands. This little bunny goes by the adorable name of Nijntje Pluis, or as she’s known abroad: Miffy!

Bunny plushie characteristics

Bunnies plushies have long ears, small noses, and short fluffy tails, and are most often covered in soft fur. The fur of most stuffed animal bunnies has a soft pastel color. Popular colors are gray or beige, but you’ll also find light blue or pink bunnies.

The most popular bunny plushie modeled after a ‘celebrity’ is based on the Dutch picture book star Miffy. Miffy is a small female rabbit, drawn by Dutch artist Dick Bruna. The little rabbit is especially popular in Japan, where you’ll find Miffy merchandise on the corner of every street. Though Miffy plushies are sold in many color varieties, the little rabbit is always easy to recognize: Dick Bruna drew her as a stylized form of a rabbit, using minimalist black graphic lines. The Miffy plushies use a similar, if not more colorful design.

Famous Bunnies (available as stuffed animals)

Equally popular is Looney Tunes (1930-1969) star Bugs Bunny, the flippant hare who became the official mascot of Warner Bros. Entertainment. Though the character was created in the late 1930s, Bugs is still considered one of the most recognizable characters in the world. Bugs’ exaggerated long neck and limbs, gloved hands, and oversized feet, were designed to make him distinctively different from Walt Disney’s cute animal characters.

Other celebrity bunnies who are available as plushies are Bugs’ love interest Lola Bunny from Space Jam (1996) and Thumper from the Walt Disney-film Bambi (1942). A more recent Disney-bunny who was used as the model for a stuffed animal was Judy Hopps from Zootopia (2016).
