About the Totorettes
In 1988, the Japanese Studio Ghibli-film My Neighbor Totoro introduced the world to Totoro, the forest spirit. The magical creature soon became the symbol of the successful animation studio. In My Neighbor Totoro, the titular creature was accompanied by several “mini totoros”, who live together with him in the forest. Aside from the grey Totoro, there are smaller blue and white spirits that bare many similarities to their large brother. The Totorettes are also part of the Totoro family.
The Totorettes live with their human in the beautiful forests of Hakone in Japan. Hakone is situated near Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan. The Totorettes’ home is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, where many tourists come to seek out the natural wonders of Japan. The little spirits love to go out into the forest, and would recommend anyone to come by for a visit to their wonderful town.
Travel with the Totorettes
The Totorettes greatly enjoy nature: from their home in the beautiful Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, to the forested areas of Hiroshima and the islands of the Rishiri Rebun Sarobetsu National Park, the little spirits go wherever nature still thrives. On occasion, the Totorettes visit the Jigokudani Monkey Park to bathe with the local snow monkeys. In their hometown of Hakone, the Totorettes adive visitors to take the Hakone Tozan Line, a small mountain train winding up into the mountains, crossing tiny bridges and passing through little tunnels, while stopping at a number of small stations along the way and changing directions at three switchbacks to be able to complete the steep ascent.
